IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF MANY CANNABIS FOUNDERS, WE ARE ENGAGING IN
What is now a well-known plot line led to Holden’s fascination with marijuana. At its inception, CBD Global was formed with the goal of alleviating a medical problem. Holden was frantically searching for anything that would help him reverse his father’s grave diagnosis in 2012. All paths, in his mind’s eye, continued to lead back to medical cannabis during his sleepless evenings of inquiry and speculation. Due to the fact that Holden was already experimenting in extractions at the time, he began generating pure, nonintoxicating extracts that would be beneficial for his father’s illness.
His father was diagnosed with terminal cancer, but cannabis extracts, particularly CBD-rich formulations, helped him bring him back from the brink of death. Eight years later, Holden’s father continues to take daily maintenance doses to maintain his mental and physical balance.
Following his father’s example of success, Holden decided to change his professional path from Software and Encryption Technology to the biological sciences. CBD Global was established in 2013, predating the passage of pro-hemp legislation in the 2018 United States Farm Bill and becoming one of the first CBD companies to enter the market.
A SOLID SCIENTIFIC FOUNDATION
CBD Global has always taken a scientific approach to product creation, and this has been the case since its inception. Beginning in 2013, they formed partnerships with three universities to investigate cannabis genome sequencing, gene modification using CRISPR technology, and variations in human bioavailability of the plant.
Genetic modification is considered a filthy word in some areas, but Holden views it from the perspective of its technical description. “I’m fine with genetic engineering up to a point,” he says of the practice. Scientists say that manipulating DNA, which means turning on and off lights, turning on and off switches, are all things that can be done inside the genome and that it is not deemed GMO because it does not instruct the plant to do something that is not naturally occurring. “Neither the [Food and Drug Administration] nor the Department of Agriculture” have approved it. CBD Global has been experimenting with gene gun editing, chemical mutagenesis, and Agrobacterium-mediated transformation in order to develop a plant that is more resilient, medicinally valuable, and cost-effective than the current crop.
One such effort has been undertaken by CBD Global, which has worked within the plant’s DNA to amplify and mutate several gene expressions, including those encoding for THC. Their research resulted in the production of a highly specialized, high-yielding genotype in a non-intoxicating plant, which was then tested for safety. CBD Global benefits from lower post-harvest processing costs due to the availability of THC remediation technology in an extract industry awash in THC remediation technologies.
THE EXTRACT MARKET IS CHANGING CONSTANTLY.
Despite the fact that CBD Global has only been in operation for seven years, the market for extractions has already through many revolutions. The demand for CBD isolates was stratospheric at the start of the industry. Held remembers selling CBD for tens of thousands of dollars per kilogram, but the market for cannabinoids swiftly shifted to novel cannabinoids such as CBG, CBN, and other compounds, according to Holden.
Each new cannabis isolation captivates the market as the next magical element, but as producers shift their focus, the value of the isolate rapidly depreciates. Holden, for example, discusses the need for CBG in his book. A few years ago, it was considered the next big cannabinoid, and for a short period of time, it was—selling for $60,000 a kg. But that won’t be the case for long, as the price has dropped to between $3,000 and $6,000 per pound. Because of the quick developments, numerous manufacturers have been caught with their trousers down.
CBD Global was responsible for the initial introduction of several of these isolates into the United States market, and it is now working on the development of other isolates. CBD HQ, CBC, CBG, CBN, and, of course, CBD are all now available. CBDG also formulates these basic materials into second-generation products such as True NanoTM, water-miscible liquids, and high-speed flowable powders, all of which are environmentally friendly.
Holden has watched the rush to the bottom of the market from his position as CEO of CBD Global. Despite this, the company has managed to avoid being harmed by the instability by taking a completely scientific approach from the beginning. The emphasis on transparency and the establishment of a genuine chain of custody, in his opinion, has shielded them from many of the market’s shifts. They have also concentrated on significant vertical integration, beginning with the seed, in a sector that has been plagued by supply challenges in the past.
A JOYFUL CAMPAIGN TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THE CBD PIXIDUST SYNDROME
The CBD Global team has maintained an unrelenting commitment to research and development despite the fact that the health and wellness business has gone completely bonkers. But that doesn’t mean the staff hasn’t shared a few chuckles over the bizarre trends in CBD consumer goods in recent months.
In recent months, Holden has received a great deal of notice for his CBD comic “Had Enough Yet?” A lighthearted rebuttal to the medical claims, CBD-related language, and fairy dust sprinkled liberally on everything over the years by the CBD industry. Producers, sellers, and even regular consumers will find it to be a humorous glimpse at just how insane the CBD business has gotten in recent years. It also contributes to dispelling some of the myths that have been promoted by famous merchandise campaigns.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR THE CBD INDUSTRY?
It’s reckoning time for many of the more sinister participants in the American CBD industry, as the Food and Drug Administration is likely to issue rules on CBD and maybe other cannabinoids in the near future. CBD Global, on the other hand, stands out from the crowd thanks to years of chain of custody documentation, Cannabis Transparency StandardsTM certificates, and a stringent commitment to American regulations that sets it apart.
CBD Global is well-positioned to operate in a highly regulated market, thanks to its ongoing research at three universities, sales in 17 countries, and more than 600 wholesale customers. It’s only a matter of time before a scientific approach that has been missing for a long time confronts the corporations that are functioning under a wild, wild west philosophy.
